Jellyfish!

August - Helen

A giant jellyfish lies on sand. My feet next to it provide a sense of scale. The jellyfish is at least 3 (of my) feet in diameter, clear and transluscent with a dark circular ring.
During my hike of the Swansea Bay and Gower peninsular, I encountered several of these giant jellyfish on Gower beaches. This was the largest found beached at Rhosili. The largest UK jellyfish, but fairly harmless to humans if you can tolerate a nettle sting. They are known as Barrel jellyfish, or Dustbin-lid jellyfish on account of their size. Beautiful and mysterious creatures.
