An interior view of some of the steel cables that hold up the 25th April suspension bridge that spans the river Tagus in Lisbon. These cables (which comprise of wires measuring in total more than 33,000 miles in length) can hold nearly 55,000 tonnes of load, enabling the bridge to accommodate both cars and trains across its suspended span. Opened in 1966, the bridge is often compared to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco - its red colour and high suspension design add to the similarities!
