Road Sunflower

August - Matt Hobbs

A bright yellow sunflower decided to make the B4030 in Bicester its stage, proudly blooming like it was auditioning to be the town’s unofficial point-of-interest..
This month’s photo is a bit of a random one. Since moving, I’ve discovered the joys of living right next to one of the estate’s main roads. Glamorous stuff. But one morning, as I walked out the door, I noticed a lone sunflower proudly blooming by the side of this very ordinary road. No idea how it got there. Guerrilla gardening? A rogue bird? A sunflower seed with ambition? Either way, it looked like it had set up home quite happily.

Of course, its career as a roadside point-of-interest was short-lived. Just two days after I took this photo, some genius decided to chop its head off. So much for adding a splash of colour to a random B-road!
