Year of the Snake

Windmill on Öland, Sweden

June - Bonnie and Richard

Windmill on Öland, Sweden
We’ve been in Öland attending a family reunion. 103 attendees - the majority American. My grandfather, Oscar, was the oldest of 8 children and the first to leave Sweden at the age of 19 in 1900. All but one followed but Frida returned to see her parents for a short visit and stayed as she fell for a local man. Her descendants hosted the reunion. Regarding the windmill - at one time there were 3,000 on Öland. Now just a few. This one is in need of repair but we found it charming with an atmospheric brooding sky in the background that morning. Richard caught the image well. By the way, we learned that Frida had a ticket on the Titanic in 1912. She was leaving with a friend but her friend was late and they missed the boat! We were stunned - understatement.
